Last Friday, the 4th of July, I invited my friends over for a little American dinner celebrating Independence Day. And what do Americans eat on this day? Normally, they are having a barbecue, but it was not warm enough for this here in Germany. So, I decided to make chicken corn chowder, coleslaw and chicken wings, and some nice chocolatey brownies.
Today is bacon day :)
Everybody loves it, but rarely admits it. Just think of the lovely smell of sizzling bacon and its crunchy, salty taste. Just lovely! In Britain bacon is mainly used in a full English breakfast, but I tried it in some savoury muffins. You can serve them with the bacon-wrapped fishcakes if you are a real bacon lover.
Let's get started: the first delicious British meal is fishcakes. I've eaten them quite a lot in Manchester, but never tried my hands on making them by myself. The basic recipe for these fishcakes is from Jamie's Great Britain, but I adapted it a bit to make it even better ;) The interesting idea of this recipe is to roast and not to fry the cakes. It is less messy and you can make the fishcakes well in advance.
I am a student and a passionate cook. I fell in love with food in my childhood when I helped my mom and granny in the kitchen. Today, I especially enjoy cooking British food, but on my blog you will also find a variety of other international dishes.
